Most CRMs treat marketing as an afterthought. A "Campaigns" tab bolted on after the fact, basic email sends, no real tracking, no connection to the deals your team is actually working. We decided to build it differently from the start.
This post is an honest accounting of where Tower’s marketing stack stands today. Not a sales page. A real feature comparison against the platforms we hear about most often: HubSpot, ActiveCampaign, Klaviyo, Brevo, Nutshell, and Pipedrive. With genuine notes on where we’re strong, where we’re still catching up, and what we’ve intentionally left to best-of-breed integrations.
The Problem With Running Two Systems
Every RevOps team I've worked with runs into the same wall. The CRM knows who the customer is. The email platform knows what they clicked. The analytics tool knows what pages they visited. None of it connects cleanly. You end up with three sources of truth, expensive integrations, and attribution data that nobody actually believes.
The standard answer is HubSpot. Buy the whole suite, pay the whole price, live in one ecosystem. That works if you have the budget. At $800 to $3,200 per month for Marketing Pro, most growing companies are paying for capabilities they use 20% of.
The other answer is to pick a great email platform and a great CRM and try to keep them in sync. Which means two contact databases, two sets of segments, and a Zapier workflow you’re constantly babysitting.
We built Tower to collapse that stack into one system. The contact record, the email history, the web visit data, the UTM attribution, and the deal pipeline all live together natively.
Here’s what that actually looks like in practice.
What We’ve Built
DnD Email Builder + AI
- Block-based drag-and-drop editor, built natively
- Desktop and mobile preview
- AI generation from a plain-English prompt
- SpamAssassin score check before you send
Visual Workflow Automation
- Node-based builder with triggers and branching logic
- Wait steps, field updates, webhook calls
- AI automation builder: describe your goal, get a workflow
- Re-enrollment control per automation
Contact-Level Web Tracking
- JS snippet deployed on your site in minutes
- Pageviews, sessions, UTM params, scroll depth, time on page
- Tied to individual contact records, not just IP guesses
- Built-in Web Analytics dashboard with 6 seeded reports
Attribution That Reaches the Deal
- UTM last-touch fields on every contact
- Source campaign auto-stamped on deals at creation
- Filter your pipeline by marketing source
- Segment contacts by email opens, clicks, or visited pages
The Comparison
Entries marked 🔶 are either partial or intentional integration choices. We use Jotform for forms, Unbounce for landing pages, and Zapier for SMS rather than building everything natively. Those are product decisions, not gaps.

Where We’re Genuinely Ahead
Two areas stand out where Tower doesn’t just match the field — it leads it.
AI Automation Builder. Most platforms give you preset workflow templates to pick from. Tower lets you describe what you want in plain English and generates the full node graph. HubSpot has something similar in early access. Nobody else does. The key was having a well-typed JSON node schema as the generation target — it made the output reliable enough to actually use.
CRM-native revenue attribution. Klaviyo does revenue attribution well for e-commerce, tying email clicks back to Shopify orders. Tower does it for B2B pipeline: when a deal is created, it inherits source_campaign from the contact’s last UTM campaign automatically. Your pipeline report becomes a direct read on which marketing campaigns generate revenue, not just which ones generate clicks.
Where Nutshell and Pipedrive Actually Stand
This comes up enough in sales conversations that it’s worth being direct.
Nutshell is a solid CRM for B2B sales teams. On marketing, the comparison is not close. There is no visual workflow automation — their automation is pipeline-stage triggers only. Their web tracking is IP-to-company resolution, meaning it tells you which company visited your site, not which contact, with no session data, UTM capture, or scroll depth. Click tracking in their email product is limited and not surfaced at the contact activity level. Tower is ahead of Nutshell on every marketing dimension. If you’re comparing them directly, read our full Tower vs Nutshell breakdown.
Pipedrive is a better sales pipeline tool than it is a marketing one. They’ve acknowledged as much by making email campaigns a paid add-on. No web tracking, no UTM attribution, no behavioral segmentation. If your team does serious inbound or outbound marketing, Pipedrive requires a separate platform running alongside it.
Where We’re Honest About the Gaps
Multi-touch attribution. Tower uses last-touch UTM attribution. If a contact was touched by a cold email, a LinkedIn ad, and then a webinar before converting, the webinar gets full credit. First-touch, linear, and time-decay models are real capabilities we haven't built yet. For most SMB use cases, last-touch gets you 90% of the insight with a fraction of the complexity.
Native A/B test UI. You can run A/B tests in Tower today by cloning an automation, changing the email, splitting your list, and comparing the stats. It works. What we don't have is a one-click wizard that automates the clone, the list split, and eventual winner selection. That's the next thing on this list.
Predictive lead scoring. Lead scoring is possible in Tower via custom field formulas and workflow logic. We don't have an ML model that scores contacts automatically based on behavioral signals. That's a real gap versus HubSpot and ActiveCampaign at their top tiers.
The Bottom Line
Every competitor in this comparison is either a dedicated marketing platform without a real CRM, or a CRM that bolted marketing on as an afterthought. Tower is one of the few systems where both halves were built to work together from day one.
HubSpot does everything Tower does and more. But at $800 to $3,200 per month for Marketing Pro, most growing businesses are paying for capabilities they’ll never use, and hiring someone just to manage the platform itself.
That’s the space Tower was built for. A system that takes marketing seriously, without requiring a $30,000/year platform or a dedicated ops hire to keep it running.
If you’re running marketing out of your CRM — or wishing you could — see the feature breakdown, review the pricing and beta plan, or try Tower.
