Every time a policy binds, the carrier sends a declaration page. Most agents open the PDF, read through it, and manually type the same information into their CRM or AMS — carrier name, policy number, effective date, expiration date, premium. Then they do it again at renewal. Tower CRM reads the PDF and does it for you.
The manual entry problem
A solo agent managing a book of 200 policies processes 200 renewals a year. Each one involves finding the new dec page, opening it, and updating the policy record. At even three minutes per renewal — conservative if you have multi-vehicle households or commercial policies — that’s ten hours a year on data entry that adds zero value to your clients.
It compounds at renewal time because the dec page also carries new premium amounts, updated coverage details, and sometimes carrier changes. Missing or mistyping any of those fields is a compliance risk and a service problem.
How Tower reads a dec page
Upload a carrier PDF to any deal record and Tower extracts the structured policy data automatically:
- Carrier name — normalized (carrier formatting artifacts cleaned up)
- Policy number — as printed
- Policy type — Personal Auto, Homeowners, Commercial Auto, BOP, GL, Workers Comp, and more
- Effective date and expiration date — parsed into your renewal timeline automatically
- Annual premium — total policy premium, not a per-coverage line
- Insured name — including multi-person households and business entities
- Coverage details — deductibles, liability limits, vehicle VINs, dwelling limits, and other coverage-specific fields depending on policy type
The extracted data populates directly into the deal record. If the PDF has OCR noise or an ambiguous field, Tower flags it with a confidence indicator so you can review before saving. High-confidence extractions apply without friction. Low-confidence fields get surfaced for a quick manual check.
At renewal
When a renewed dec page arrives, the same upload flow updates the existing deal record — new effective date, new expiration date, new premium — rather than creating a duplicate entry. Your renewal automation timeline resets automatically based on the new expiration date.
For agents managing a growing book, this is where manual entry breaks down first. Renewal season means a batch of dec pages arriving at once. Tower handles them as uploads, not as data entry tasks.
What it works with
Tower’s parser handles text-based PDFs from most major carriers. For scanned or image-based PDFs, it falls back to vision extraction. Either way, the structured output is the same — carrier, dates, premium, coverages — applied to the policy record in one step.
The setup
Dec page upload is available on every deal record in insurance mode. No configuration. Open a deal, find the Dec Page section, upload the PDF, review the extracted fields, and apply. The entire flow takes under a minute for a standard personal lines policy.
